Perfect for athletes, growing children and new mothers, the Chia seed isn't just the base of a novelty decoration. There are many health benefits in consuming the Chia seed. The Aztecs would often consume them during conquests and travelling Indians would often eat as little as a spoonful to nourish them for a 24 hour forced march. As they absorb up to 12 times their weight in water, they are extremely useful in your body. They allow carbohydrates to break down into sugar a lot slower, resulting in greater endurance and hydration in a person. As well as being useful when consumed, the Chia seed was also once used my missionaries on gunshot wounds and other injuries to prevent infection and speed up healing.
